Abstract
Background : Vivax malaia reerged i the Repubic of Korea in 1960 Sice 1968, many cases
with malaria have been reported. Bt e 1 the antimelarial activitios inchuding chemoprophylaxis
and repelnts, the anmual incderce of melia has been deceased, Antimalaial chemoprophylasis s
efectiv 10 coniro dscase, bt wilfcilate the sread of drug-resstnce or drug-tolerance, Thus,
itis ek to analyze the cfet of reatment outcoe. 3

Methods : We anlyzed the patients diagnosed as vivax malria who readmitted in miliary
hospital from 1957 2006 All cscs were confirmed s i by periherl bood smear in ity
hospia, 3

Results ¡Ë Forty-five cases were observed in second atck and thre cases were observed in third
atack. All cases were vivax melaria with fever, an tetan fever ceveloped in %5 cases (5% in
st attack, 22 cases (889%) in second attack. Varius dstution of the nlerval between st
atack remission and second attack was observed (rom 8 days to 37 months). OF the all cases, 41
cascs (9119 developed malaia between May and October in first attack, 20 cases (66%) in scond
atack. Readmission rae were 05E5% 3

Conelusion * We obseree that ol 45 of G565 (06590 cases were readited. The reatment of
vivas malaria in Korea Army i efective in controling malaria and shouid be cotinved But continued
surllnce with veterans and ith or withut chemoprophylaxis are warraned o chminste the
